Phormingochilus hatihati

from $26.00

The Phormingochilus hatihati or Purple Earth Tiger Tarantula is one of the few Tarantulas in our ownership where the translation of their name ‘Hati Hati’ or “Be Careful” is aptly named with their temperament and personality. They are an extremely reclusive tarantula, so do not take their shyness for defenselessness as they are an old world with medically significant venom. The vibrant purples of the females of this species and darker tones make them a fantastic pet for viewing from afar. Still, we would not recommend holding this Old World species due to their medically significant venom.

What’s the ideal diet for a Purple Earth Tiger Tarantula?

All Tarantulas can eat a variety of feeders. We recommend crickets, dubia roaches, silkworms, horned worms occasionally, and a superworm or mealworm as the occasional treat!

How should I keep a Purple Earth Tiger Tarantula?

We recommend starting with a small Arboreal Bliss enclosure. When they are about ⅓ the size, you’ll want to upgrade to a medium or large Arboreal Bliss enclosure, depending on the tarantula. Feed them as slings once a week, twice if their opisthosoma (abdomen) looks small, but if the opisthosoma is wider than their prosoma (pneumothorax), then wait a couple of days to feed. Feed juveniles or adults nothing larger than their opisthosoma once a week. Make sure to keep a filled water dish at all times. Wider and deeper is fine; your tarantula can’t drown. They’ll float on top of the water.

How long could a Purple Earth Tiger Tarantula live?

Females will last 12+ years, and males between 3-6 years. These are the best estimates from multiple sources.
